Meet Kaelyn, TheRedHeadAcademic!

Kaelyn Grace Apple is a 27 year old aspiring scholar and second year Ph.D. student in History and African American Studies at Yale University. Kaelyn’s current research project focuses on the law of slavery in the early modern English Atlantic world. Kaelyn is deeply invested in ongoing studies of slavery, legal history, and gender.

Kaelyn obtained her B.A. in History and African American Studies at UCLA in 2019 and completed her Masters at the University of Oxford in 2020 after submitting her dissertation, titled “The Condition of the Mother: The Legal Origins and Legacies of Matrilineal Slave Laws in Colonial Virginia.”

In addition to her own studies, Kaelyn is focused on providing access routes to higher education for aspiring students and making the work of academics more publicly accessible. Kaelyn started her YouTube Channel while at UCLA in order to show like-minded students what pursuing a career in academia is like first hand.

After four years of experience applying and gaining acceptance to undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the US and the UK, Kaelyn is repurposing her knowledge to help like-minded students from around the world gain acceptance to their dream universities!
